Up on the mountains: Vienna day 2

Terveiset sängynpohjalta! Meidän piti lähteä lauantaina vuorille pitkästä aikaa, mutta olosuhteiden pakosta pitikin jäädä kotiin parantelemaan flunssaa, joka onnistui salakavalasti hiipimään meihin molempiin. Siispä voimmekin esimerkiksi jatkaa edellisestä ja kertoa, mitä tapahtuikaan Wienin toisena päivänä.

//Greetings from the bottom of the bed! We were supposed to go to the mountains today but had to stay home because things change. We are both down with flu so we can continue from where we left the last time and tell you what happened on day two in Vienna.

Ostettiin aamulla 24-tunnin julkisen liikenteen liput ja suunnattiin ensiksi Josefstadtiin etsimään holokaustin uhrien muistomerkkiä. Jokusen hetken siellä pyörittyämme ja opaskirjaa tutkittuamme tajusimme, että emme olleet lähimaillakaan vaan Judenplatz löytyy oikeasti hyvin läheltä hotelliamme. Siispä päätimme lähteä Secessioniin, nykytaiteen museoon, joka sijaitsee ihan Naschmarktin vieressä. Esillä oli kolme vaihtuvaa näyttelyä ja Gustav Klimtin Beethoven Frieze. Opiskelijan sisäänpääsymaksu 5 euroa oli ihan sopiva summa taiteesta, joka jäi pitkälti molemmille meistä suureksi kysymysmerkiksi.

//In the morning we bought a 24-hour ticket for the public transport and headed to Josefstadt to look for the Holocaust memorial. After walking around for some time and exploring the guidebook we realized that we weren't even near and that Judenplatz can be found around the corner from our hotel. So we decided to go visit the Secession, a museum of contemporary art which is right next to the Naschmarkt. They had 3 changing exhibitions and the Beethoven Frieze by Gustav Klimt. The admission fee for students was 5 euros and it was an ok amount to pay of art that we didn't quite understand.

Secession

Lisäksi teimme visiitin huonekalumuseoon Mariahilfin alueelle. Huonekalumuseossa oli esillä huonekaluja 1800-luvulta nykypäivään ja kerroksia oli useampia. Vähitellen museokiertely alkoi kuitenkin riittää ja lähdimme suunnistamaan kohti todellista päämääräämme, Millin sunnuntaibrunssia. Olimme tehneet pöytävarauksen kahdeksi, mutta onneksi meille löytyi paikka jo aiemmin. Paikka oli todella viihtyisä, ruokaa oli paljon ja monipuolisesti eikä mauissakaan ollut valittamista. 17 euron brunssi sisälsi veden, buffetpöydän antimet sekä erikseen tilattavat munakkaat ja pannukakut, lämpimät juomat veloitettiin erikseen. Tarjolla oli erilaisia salaatteja, lohta, nautaa, kanaa, levitteitä, juustoja, leikkeleitä, erilaisia peruna-/riisilisukkeita, leipää, muroja, jogurttia, hedelmiä, leivonnaisia ja lista jatkuu.. Iso peukku tälle brunssille!

//We also visited the furniture museum in Mariahilf. At the museum they had furnitures from 19th century to present and there were many floors. Soon we had had enough of museums and headed towards our real destination, Mill's sunday brunch. We had made a reservation for two but luckily they had space for us earlier. The place was very cosy, they had diverse food that didn't finish and that even tasted good. The brunch cost 17 euros and it included water, buffet table, omelettes and pancakes that they made from order but the warm drinks where excluded. They had different kinds of salads, salmon, beef, chicken, spreads, cheese, hams, potato and rise sides, bread, cereal, yoghurt, fruits, pastries and the list goes on.. Thumbs up for this brunch!

Navat pullollaan oli hyvä vyöryä hotellille lepäilemään ja sulattelemaan. Reilun tunnin verran jaksoimme olla aloillaan, kunnes lähdimme uudestaan liikkeelle. Ja mitäpäs muuta löysimmekään 2 minuutin kävelyn jälkeen kuin sen holokaustin uhrien muistomerkin.. No, parempi myöhään kun ei milloinkaan. Poikkesimme myös Peterskircheen, jonne emme edellisenä päivänä päässeet kurkistamaan sisälle, sillä siellä oli vihkiminen alkamaisillaan. Kirkon edessä näimme maailman surkeimman näköisen koiran, reppana.

//With our tummys full it was good to billow back to the hotel to rest and digest. We managed to stay still for about an hour before we were out of the door again. And after two minutes of walking what else did we find but the Holocaust memorial. Well better late than never. We also stopped by at Peterskirche, the previous day we didn't have the chance to see it from the inside because a wedding was about to begin. In front of the church we saw the world's poorest looking dog.

Tässä vaiheessa hyppäämme muutaman tunnin yli ja siirrymme suoraan illallispaikkaamme Maschu Maschuun, jossa nautimme "kaupungin parhaat" falafelit. En tiedä kuka tutkimuksen on tehnyt ja kuinka tuloksia on vertailtu keskenään. Mutta ainakin voimme kumpikin todeta, että ruoka oli hyvää. Harmi vain, että ainakin Tea oli edelleen niin täynnä brunssista, että pitan kokonaan alas saamisesta ei ollut toivoakaan. Ja taas vyöryttiin kohti hotellia. //At this point we are going to jump forward in time and go straight to our dining place, Maschu Maschu where they serve "the best falafel in town". I don't know who is behind the survey and how they have compared the results. But at least we can confirm that the food was good. Too bad that Tea was still full from the brunch that there was no hope of finishing the whole pita. And yet again we were billowing towards the hotel.
