Mošovce jarmok

Viime lauantaina saimme kutsun lähteä vierailemaan Mošovce-nimiseen kylään, jossa kaksi Bible Schoolin työntekijää asuu. Kylässä järjestettiin markkinat (jarmok), jotka tuntuivat vetävän porukkaa hullun lailla. Sen saimme huomata jo aamulla bussiasemalla, kun bussia odotteli laiturilla n. 30 ihmistä. Lopulta puolen tunnin bussimatkan jälkeen löysimme perille, siitä ei ollut erehdystäkään, sillä koko bussi taisi tyhjentyä sillä pysäkillä ja lähipellot olivat täynnä parkkeerattuja autoja. Lähdimme suunnistamaan väkijoukon perässä ja viimein löysimme itsemme pienen kylän ahtaalta kadulta. Mošovce on alle 2000 asukkaan kylä, mutta markkinat vetävät puoleensa 10 000 kävijää.

//Last saturday we were invited to go visit a village called Mošovce, where two employees from the Bible School also live. There took place a fair (jarmok) that seemed to interest a lot of people. We already noticed that at the bus station in Martin, about 30 people were waiting for the bus by the time we arrived. In the end, after a 30-minute bus drive we found ourselves from Mošovce, there was no doubt about it since everyone on the bus got out at that very same bus stop and the nearby fields were filled with parked cars. We followed the crowd and eventually found ourselves from the crowded street of a small town. There are less than 2000 inhabitants in Mošovce but this fair brings about 10 000 visitors in the town.

Tässä vaiheessa löysimme roomalais-katolisen kirkon ja poikkesimme sisään. Kirkko oli koristeltu tulevaa sadonkorjuujuhlaa varten, jota myös Martinin luterilaisessa kirkossa vietetään tulevana viikonloppuna. Kirkko oli pieni, mutta komean näköinen ja koristelut olivat vaikuttavia. Kirkossa oli myös muutamat "maalaukset", jotka oli tehty erilaisia ruoka-aineita hyödyntäen (alla oleva kuva).

//At this point we found a roman-catholic church and decided to take a look inside. The church was decorated for the upcoming harvest thanksgiving, that will also be celebrated in the Lutheran church in Martin this upcoming sunday. The church was small but beautiful and the decorations were very impressive. There were also a couple "paintings" that had been made by using different kinds of food ingredients (see the picture below).

Kirkolta soitimme emännällemme, jonka mukana lähdimme kiertämään markkinoita. Hän esitteli meille perinteisiä slovakialaisia tuotteita ja osasi neuvoa mitä ostaa ja mitä jättää. Markkinoilla oli paljon käsintehtyjä tuotteita, mutta myös paljon tusinatavaraa. Teimme muutamat pienet löydöt ja maistoimme paikallisia herkkuja. Alla näkyvä spiraalipötkylä oli uppopaistettua perunaa, johon sai ripotella makunsa mukaan suolaa ja pikanttia paprikaa. Vähän kuin olisi sipsejä syönyt, mutta paljon parempaa :) Maistoimme myös langošea, joka oli myös uppopaistettu, vähän kuin suolainen munkkitaikinasta valmistettu lätty, jonka söimme valkosipulilla ja juustoraasteella höystettynä. Oli niin tuhtia, että yksi riitti helposti meille kaksin syötäväksi. Siitä emme edes nälissämme muistaneet kuvaa napata.. mutta se on tämän näköistä tavaraa.

//From the church we called our hostess and she took us around the fair. She showed us some traditional slovakian products and knew to tell us what to buy and what to leave. There were a lot of hand made products but also a lot of bags, jewellery etc made in China. We bought a few smaller things and tasted some local delicacies. The spiral you can see below is deep fried potato, where you could sprinkle salt and paprika. It was like eating chips but a lot better :) We also tasted langoše, which was also deep fried, kind of like a pancake made of salty donut dough. We had it with garlic and grated cheese. It was so heavy that one was easily enough for the both of us. We were so hungry that we even forgot to take a picture of it.. but it looks like this.

Manor house

Vierailimme myös emäntämme kotona, joka oli upea, kolme vuotta sitten rakennettu talo. Olohuoneen päätyseinä oli lähes kokonaan lasia ja siitä näkyi upea vuoristomaisema. Upea talo upealla paikalla! Onko nyt toistettu upeaa riittävän upeasti  useasti? Saimme hieman murua rinnan alle ja maistelimme "ruis"leipää, vuohenmaidosta tehtyä juustoa ja peurasalamia. Lämmiteltyämme lähdimme vielä takaisin kiertämään markkinoille, ennen kuin otimme suunnan bussipysäkille, jossa ihastelimme auringonlaskua. Kotiin päästyämme oli jo pimeä ja kello näytti jo lähemmäs kahdeksaa.

//We also visited our hosts house which was a gorgeous house built three years ago. One wall in the living room was almost completely made of glass and there was an amazing view with mountains behind the glass. An amazing house at an amazing place! Did we say amazing many times enough? We had a little something to eat and we tried "rye"bread, cheese made of goat milk and deer salami. After warming up for some time we headed back to the fair before finding the bus stop. We were amazed by the beautiful sunset. By the time we got home it was already dark and almost 8pm.
