Piipahdus Kosiceen // Short visit to the Kosice

Perjantaina 22.11. suuntasimme junalla itäiseen Slovakiaan, Kosicen kaupunkiin, yhdessä yhden yläkoulun opettaja-E. kanssa. Kaupunki on Slovakian toiseksi suurin ja sillä on todella näyttävä historiallinen keskusta, tosin tähän aikaan vuodesta emme päässeet näkemään sen parhaita puolia.

// On friday 22.11. we headed to eastern Slovakia and a city called Kosice. One teacher-E. from bible school came with us. The city is the second largest city in Slovakia and it has really nice historical centre. Too bad at this time of year we did not see the best parts of it. 

Iltapäivällä oltiin perillä, E. saattoi meidät keskustaan ennen kuin suuntasi sovittuun iltamenoon. Ensimmäiseksi vietiin reput hotellille, jonka jälkeen menimme Hlavna-pääkadulle kuljeksimaan. Katu oli varsin pimeä, eikä nähtävyyksiä oikein pystynyt hahmottamaan. Siispä suuntasimme E. suosittelemaan kelttiläis-tyyppiseen ravintolaan päivälliselle. Puitteet ja sisustus olivat todella hienoja, mutta ruoka ei vakuuttanut, varsinkin Tean annos oli kaukana kunnon lihasta. Käytiin vielä drinksuilla ja jälkiruualla Smelly Cat-kahvila baarissa, joka oli aivan hotellimme vieressä. Paikka oli kotoisa ja rento, inspiraationa oli Frendit- sarja ja sen kyllä huomasi.

// We arrived in the afternoon, E. came with us in the center and then she went to an evening party. So  the two of us took our belongings to the pension and then we went for a walk at the Hlavna- main street. The street was a bit dark and we could not really see the sights. Because it was time for dinner we went to a celtic restaurant which E. had recommended. The athmosphere and decoration there were really excellent, but the food did not convince. Especially Teas meat was far away from decent meat! After that we went for drinks and some dessert to a place called Smelly Cat, which was just around our hotel. The place was relaxed and cozy, it was inspired by Friends (the series) and it showed.

"Villi"sikaa. Villiä se kyllä tosiaan oli, kun sai arvailla että mistä palasta löytyy läskin sijaan lihaa. Ei kovin monesta.
//"Wild" sow. Wild indeed, as I had to guess which piece would contain meat instead of fat. Not many.



Edellisen kuvan keskittynyt tuijotus selittyy tuolla televisioruudulla, jossa pyöri Frendit. Siis koko ajan.
//The focused staring in the previous picture can be explained with that tv-screen that showed Friends. Non-stop.

Lauantaina aamiaisen jälkeen menimme soivalle suihkulähteelle, joka harmiksemme oli jo talviteloilla ilman vettä ja valoja. Puistossa oli kuitenkin erikoinen soivien kellojen nähtävyys. Täällä tapasimme E., jonka kanssa vietimme aamupäivän. Kävimme ensiksi hänen kanssaan Mikaelin vankila-museossa. Oli hienoa, kun saimme halutessamme tulkkausta kohteen informaatioihin. Muutenkin museo oli mielenkiintoinen, saimme oikeasti kosketuksen maanalaiseen tyrmään, kidutushuoneisiin ja vankiläelämään.

// On saturday after breakfast we went to the singing fountain, which was already put in winter condition without lights and water. There was a special ringing bell sight. In the park we met E., and with her we spent the morning. First we went to Mikaels prison-museum and it was nice that we could have translation about the museums information. The museum was interesting, we got almost a real contact with an underground jail, torture rooms and a prison life itself.

Soiva suihkulähde // The singing fountain



Museon jälkeen kiertelimme edelleen keskustan pääkadulla, kävimme hiljentymässä massiivisessa Pyhän Elisabetin katedraalissa, jossa on muuten Euroopan laajin kokoelma ikkunamaalauksia. Katedraalin torni oli korkea ja saimme kavuta varsin kapeita portaita, mutta kiipeäminen palkittiin ylhäällä, josta näki koko kaupungin jokaiselta kantilta. Huipulla myös tuuli erittäin navakasti!

// After the museum tour we wandered around the head street, and went for a little quiet moment in the massive St. Elisabeth's cathedral, which has Europe's largest collection of window paintings. The cathedrals tower was very high and we had to climb really narrow stairs. But climbing was rewarded at the top of the tower, where we saw the whole city from every direction. There was a strong wind blowing!

Tornilta suuntasimme keskiaikaistyyppiseen ravintolaan lounaalle, jonne seuraamme liittyi yksi E. ystävä. Ruuat olivat hyviä, suurin osa taisi valita perinteisiä slovakialaisia ruokia.

// From the tower we went to a medieval type restaurant for lunch. One of E's friend joined us. Foods were good, almost everybody took some traditional slovak dish.

Tapasimme yhteistyökyvyttömän kissan. // We met a non-cooperative cat.

Mainittakoon vielä, että netissä oli Kosicen sivuilla mainostettu Kosice Gold- drinkkiä, jota kyselimme useasta paikasta, mutta tarjoilijat vain pyörittelivät päätään, joten jäi Kosice Zlato maistamatta ja mysteeriksi. Muuten oli kyllä hyvät kahvit ja juomat. Päivän päätteeksi junaa odotellessamme poikkesimme vielä Auparkiin, mutta poistuimme sieltä tyhjin käsin.

// One notice was that we tried to find more than from one bar a drink called Kosice Gold, because we had read about it from the net. All waiters just shook their heads and they did not know what we were talking about. So Kosice Zlato stayed as a mystery. Otherwise we had good drinks and coffees in the city. In the end of the day, while waiting for our train, we went to Aupark but we left it with empty hands/bags.

Niin ja kotimatkalla meinasi mennä sormi suuhun, kun meidän junalipussa oli yksi viiva liikaa tai ainakin väärässä kohdassa. Se siis näytti konduktöörin  mielestä, että myös Kosice-Martin väli oli käytetty. Onneksi ihana täti oli samassa hytissä, hän taisi saada puhuttua meidän puolesta, vaikkakaan samaa kieltä ei ollut meillä. Arjen enkeli :)

// Oh and on our way home in the train we had a little problem as the conductor was not happy with our tickets. It looked that we had already used our return ticket both ways as the way from Kosice to Martin was lined over. We were lucky because one helpful lady talked with the conductor and we think she got us out from the situation. Even though we did not have same language. She seemed to be one of those everday life angels :).
